9:26 am - Chicago Quidditch!

Do you live in the Chicagoland area?

Do you love Harry Potter?

Do you want to play quidditch - but your college doesn't have a team and/or you already have graduated?

MORE INFO: chicago.quidditch@gmail.com - OR just reply to this post!!

Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/ChicagoKnox

We have a practice THIS SUNDAY THE 30th at 1pm. Meet at Chase Park at one for friendly scrimmages, fun drills, and maybe a relaxing hang out or game of munchkin afterwards. Chase Park 4701 N. Ashland Ave., Chicago, Illinois 60640 BYOB - bring yo' own broom!!!

Bringing Quidditch to Muggles in the fantastic Chicago city!!

Started in Middlebury, Chicago's Quidditch team will bring the game to the community!

Anyone 18 or older can join in this full-contact, fun mix of rugby, tag and dodgeball!

How to play? Chasers: (3 per team) These players handle the quaffle and attempt to rack up points by scoring through the hoops. Beater: (2 per team) These players use bludgers (dodgeballs) to hit other players. When hit, the player must run back to their team's hoops before they can reenter the game. Keeper: (1 per team) These players guard the hoops. Seeker: (1 per team) These players chase after the snitch. "Catching" the snitch ends the game. Snitch: (1 person. No team affiliation) This person is allowed to run outside the pitch, remove players from their brooms, hide, dodge, and climb trees to avoid capture. "Catching" the snitch means catching the tennis ball held in a sock attached to the snitch's shorts (think flag football).

Referee & Cheerleader: Yep, you know.

12:11 pm - Visiting

So, two friends and I will be visiting your fair city next month for three days. We're in our early and mid-twenties, aren't into clubbing but we love food and cool bars, art and live music, and just wandering around. Does anyone have any tips for us, especially where to stay and particular places to go? We're on a moderate budget.

6:02 pm - attn: chicago (hula) hoopers??

i'm getting interested in hooping and would love to find some fellow hoopers. i only know of one class, but hear it's a little new-agey-get-in-touch-with-your-hoop for me. it's also kind of expensive, so i figure i'll try one last thing before i give up and go to learn at least a few tricks.

anyone want to start a class?? i'd love to help start a class with hip hop, cabaret - FUN - music and focus on tricks. i took a burlesque-y hoop class years ago and would love something more along those lines.

right? how fun does this sound?

anyone interested? i will do as much as i can with the details (where we might meet, etc) if i can find someone to LEAD the class. is this you? maybe we can get enough people to even pay that it would be profitable-y.

also - if you think you'd like to get involved too, please chime in. first, hooping is cool. second, custom hoops are cool. third, 600 calories an hour burned - even while watching TV -- is cool. enough said? even if it just SOUNDS fun, please let me know. i would love to make this happen.

7:22 pm - Visiting Chicago

As my title says, I'll be visiting Chicago. I'll be in Bangor, MI for a week and I haven't been to Chicago since I was a little girl, so my little family is going to drive out there for a day.

I hope this is the right community for this - I was hoping for some recommendations on some places to visit while we're there - where to park, what to avoid, what to look for.

I appreciate the help in advance.

ETA: I have a seven year old boy and a year and a half year old girl.

2:45 pm - Camp Fandom 2.0

Camp Fandom is a BarCamp being held in Chicago on March 20, March 21, 2009 at Illinois Institute of Technology, McCormick Tribune Campus Center? The event is intended for Chicago's creative people who are trying to figure out how to use fan space to more effectively promote themselves, for fans looking to become more involved with the back end of the communities they are part of and entertainment companies looking for more exposure, fan fiction writers looking to find out how to get more readers. It is about supporting the structures that support our love of popular culture and learning how to support them better.

Because this is a barcamp, what actually happens will all depend on who attends so we really encourage the creative types and fans of popular culture to attend. If people are interested in presenting, they can sign up now on the BarCamp page or sign up the day of.

Additional details about the BarCamp can be found at http://barcamp.org/Camp+Fandom+20 .

9:39 pm

hi. i moved to the city in september and have lived in wicker park and commuted down to hyde park. i sort of know points south of north ave but haven't really explored the rest of the city yet. however, i'm moving up to logan square, by the logan square blue line and was just wondering whats cool up there?

good veggie friendly restaurants, burrito places, coffeeshops, punk/dive bars, fun things to do, dog parks, etc.

the best of the best around logan square blue line (fullerton and kimball area to be exact) for an artsy 24 year old vegan into diy punk stuff
